Dr John Weru

Dr Weru is an Assistant Professor of Palliative Medicine at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi (AKUH-N). He is the leader of the Palliative Care Team at the Hospital and the Chairperson of the East African Palliative Care Steering Committee charged with developing and setting up this service in the region. He is the chair of the board of Kenya Hospices and Palliative Care Association (KEHPCA). Dr Weru is a reviewer with the Journal of Supportive Care in Cancer and sub-editor with the Open Journal of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. He is the chairperson of the Hospital Ethics Committee at AKUH-N and has assisted in setting up hospital ethics committees at Aga Khan Hospitals, Mombasa and Kisumu. He is a member of the executive committee of the Bioethics Society of Kenya (BSK). He possesses a PGD in bioethics from CBEC and is currently undertaking MBE with the same institution.
